Creating value through considered design.
Our Story
Croft Architects was founded in 1994 by Bob Croft, who transitioned from working in large-scale commercial practice to setting up his own practice. Initially, the studio was partially created to help raise a young family at home, but also to establish a platform for Bob’s vision to deliver affordable, well considered designs and high-value projects specific to the Queensland climate and context. In 2024, Bob’s son Michael Croft, joined the studio bringing over 15 years of local and international leading industry experience.
Over 30 years of practice, the studio has cemented itself as a leading established practice, design-driven and approachable, who specialise in residential, commercial, industrial, and small-scale public buildings in Brisbane and Queensland.
Being a small practice, we can offer complete personal attention to all clients from start to finish.

Our Design Approach
We create liveable, functional and delightful buildings that people love to occupy. We also consider the wider impact design and construction can have beyond the site boundaries, on our communities and culture.
We believe in a collaborative and transparent design process that that is tailored to our client’s brief and vision. We also understand the importance of value for money, where the best outcome is often through combined efforts between the client and architect to challenge assumptions and evolve the design.
We love the process of building, making and exploring the unique ‘crafted’ potential for each design and material. Working with engineers, consultants and builders, we foster an alignment of quality and vision on each project.
We strive to create sustainable buildings that are enduring and resilient in the face of future climatic change and the need to create a more harmonious relationships with the environment and country.
We specialise in buildings for a Queensland context and Sub-Tropical climate. We know how to shade buildings from the hot sun, how to harness cross ventilation and daylight to create bright, comfortable spaces and how a late afternoon storm can spring out of nowhere, giving meaning to resilient and climatically appropriate architecture.
In a post-COVID world, we understand how informed design will play a crucial role in effective resource use in a ever-changing construction industry. This often requires challenging ‘traditional’ construction processes and practices and to ‘do more with less’.
