This modest extension project, located in Highgate Hill, was an extension project for a client who wanted to explore options for developing their small commercial site and existing building.

The original building was constructed and used as a butcher shop from 1956 and has had various owners and tenants over the years such as physiotherapists, yoga studios and designers.

Being surrounded by residential and small character commercial sites, the owner was interested in adding a residential use. A two storey residential extension was proposed to sit over the rear carpark, attached to the back of the commercial building.

The design focused on responding to the busy Highgate Hill surrounds, Brisbane’s sub-tropical climate and context and complement the modest charm of an old butcher shop.
